Apparently there’s a “post jam jam” right after GMTK Jam that is specifically for games made during jams that get updates. I’m going to submit Routine Patrol v0.2 to it.
Now I just need to crank 0.2 out.
I already have a basic intruder implemented. It’s still pretty buggy, and I don’t like it that much, but it’s there. I think I need to push past my distaste of it and focus on getting the alert system working as expected. Once that works, all I really need to do is polish, and I have a one-level demo slice that implements the original prototype scope.
Hopefully I get more feedback, and more specific feedback. I didn’t really get all that much feedback from PSJG15, other than people liked the idea and thought it was clever. I was also disappointed that I only had one judge provide a rating; I was expecting two or three because they said that’s what they were set up to do. Most of the games only had one rating, so there were many categories where there were hundreds of people tied for first place because 1 judge rated them all 5.
I did some quick stats on the “unofficial” raw results, and maybe I’ll post them here later. The short version is that Routine Patrol was rated in the 87th percentile of submissions even though few people played it. My goal for the jam was to get in the top 3000 just by submitting; it looks like I ended up in the top 300. If I believe the ratings, which I don’t. Still, I’m happy with that considering the time I was able to put in and my lack of experience with the tool chain.
